sidetracked at the supermarket

I snapped this photo of blueberry jelly at the posh supermarket chain Pão de Açucar.  It has the same kinds of products and clientele as a Whole Foods would have in the U.S.  Blueberries, and berries in general, do not naturally grow in Brazil, and are very expensive when imported.  This jar of jelly was around US$10.  But the reason I snapped this picture was because I never knew the Portuguese word for blueberry, which is apparently mirtilo.  As, this picture demonstrates however, Brazilians also don't know the Portuguese for blueberry.  It's much more common for blueberries and blackberries, when they arrive, to be labelled by their English names.  Rasberries and strawberries are referred to by their more common Portuguese names. 

Anyways, I was pleased to be as ignorant about the Portuguese word for blueberry as the average middle class Brazilian.
